Inspired by Keith Haring's dedication to social justice, this work uncovers the unseen emotional and physical struggles activists endure while presenting an unwavering front in the face of adversity

2023, co-commissioned by the National Choreography Center at the University of Akron

Aftermath explores the lives of four Black male characters after police violence has torn apart their community. This 60-minute work combines live jazz and hip hop music with Moore-Dunson’s choreographic style of “Urban Midwest Storytelling”. Seated in the round, the audience gets an intimate view of the healing process needed in many black communities today.

2021, commissioned by Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland

In this original performance entitled Alright? choreographer and dancer, Dominic Moore-Dunson, uses movement to respond to Martin Creed’s neon sculpture, Work No. 3398 EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT. Jazz musician, Tommy Lehman, who has developed the original score for Alright? will accompany Dominic during this performance.

2018, commissioned by Akron Art Museum

This work is inspired by two of Jeff Donaldson’s works, “Simba” and “J.D. McClain’s Day In Court”. By choreographically deconstructing both paintings and using those elements as a way to create a three-dimensional painting of a gallery space, “CAUTION” explores the tension between the “black fear”, self-imposed black isolation, and the American myth of the “black male predator”. In the process of creating this work, the questions Dominic posed to himself are, “Why do we find ourselves in the “CAUTION SPACE”, what do people think of us when we are there, and more importantly, how do we get out?

Families are the compass which guides us in our brightest and darkest times. This work takes an autobiographical look at the path of accepting your journey and how the decisions we make can affect the loved ones in our lives.

“What’s Happening to Grandpa” meets Disney’s “Up” in this tender, sensitive picture book that gently explains the memory loss associated with aging and diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

A stage adaptation of the award winning children’s book “The Remember Balloons” written by Jessie Oliveros and illustrated by Dana Wulfekotte.

2018, co-commissioned by Inlet Dance Theatre

The Black Card Project is a live-action dance theatre work evening following Artie, an exuberant Black kid who doesn’t fit into the neighborhood. His mother, embarrassed by his lack of cultural awareness, convinces Artie of his need to “learn how to be Black.” Through his imagination, Artie enters the world of Booker T. Malcolm Luther Parks Academy of Absolute Blackness on the journey to earn his ‘black card.’
